Sources have confirmed with Wa Mpira that reports claiming Flames midfielder Francisco Madinga is heading to Georgia to sign with a club are not true. This contradicts a statement released by his former club, Mighty Wanderers.

Madinga left Mighty Wanderers this week after failing to agree on new contract terms. In a statement released on Tuesday, the Nomads said the midfielder was leaving to pursue an “opportunity with a club in Georgia where he previously played.”

“Mighty Wanderers FC wishes to confirm that Francisco Madinga will be leaving the club upon the expiry of his contract on 6th August, 2025.

“Francisco has informed the club of his decision not to renew his contract as he intends to pursue an opportunity with a club in Georgia where he previously played. We thank Francisco for his dedication and service to the club,” reads the statement.

However, sources close to Madinga have since contradicted the club’s statement, confirming that he has not received any offer from Georgia. “Madinga is not going to Georgia; that is not true,” the source said. “The club offered him two different contracts—a three-year deal for MK10 million and a two-year deal for MK8 million—both of which he refused.”

Meanwhile, Wa Mpira understands that Madinga has received an offer from an unnamed club in Zimbabwe, and Ekhaya FC is also considering signing him. Madinga has not yet made a decision on his next move.

Madinga initially joined Wanderers on loan from Namiwawa Rangers before making the move permanent. He became a crucial player for the club, attracting interest from top African clubs like Orlando Pirates.

In 2020, he moved to Georgian side Dila Gori FC on a three-year deal. After his stint in Europe, he returned to Africa to play for Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy before rejoining Wanderers in the mid-season transfer window of 2023.

A notable asset for the Malawi National Team, Madinga played a significant role in the Flames’ qualification for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. He also starred in the tournament in Cameroon, famously providing an assist for Gabadinho Mhango’s goal against Zimbabwe.
