‘No Kachasu, No Ambuye Ntengeni’ Sulom announces strick security measures ahead of BT Derby

The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has announced stringent security and safety measures for all TNM Super League matches, including the highly anticipated Blantyre Derby between FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.

The new regulations, which come into immediate effect, prohibit the sale of beverages in glass bottles, including alcoholic drinks, both inside and around stadiums. Additionally, no free entry (malova) will be permitted during the final minutes of any TNM Super League game, a measure aimed at preventing overcrowding and maintaining order.

The league has also emphasized that selling alcohol to minors is strictly prohibited, with any violation of these measures leading to arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law.

“Let’s keep our matches safe, enjoyable, and orderly for everyone,” SULOM stated in their announcement, which comes as the league intensifies efforts to improve matchday experience and safety across all venues.

The timing of these measures is significant as they precede one of the most anticipated fixtures of the season. SULOM has appointed experienced referee Mayamiko Kanjere to officiate the Blantyre Derby, marking his first time handling the fixture since 2023 when the match ended in a 1-1 draw between the two rivals.

Kanjere will be assisted by Pondamali Tembo and Evance Musonda, while Godfrey Nkhakananga will serve as the reserve referee for the top-of-the-table clash.

Both teams enter the derby in excellent form, having secured convincing victories in their midweek fixtures. Mighty Wanderers defeated Blue Eagles 3-1 at Nankhaka Stadium on Wednesday, while FCB Nyasa Big Bullets thrashed MAFCO FC 3-0 on Tuesday.

The stakes couldn’t be higher for both sides. The Peoples Team currently lead the table with 49 points from 20 games, while the Nomads sit second with 45 points from 19 games, a four-point gap that makes Sunday’s encounter crucial in the title race.

A victory for Bullets would extend their lead to seven points, potentially putting significant pressure on their city rivals. Conversely, a Wanderers win would trim the gap to just one point with a game in hand, throwing the championship race wide open.

The psychological edge may favor the Nomads, who won the first-round encounter courtesy of Blessings Mwalilino’s goal. However, with both teams in scintillating form and the new security measures ensuring a well-organized matchday environment, fans can expect an electrifying atmosphere at Kamuzu Stadium.

The emphasis on safety and security reflects SULOM’s commitment to creating a family-friendly environment where supporters can enjoy quality football without concerns about disorder or safety breaches
