Malawi National Team Players have been motivated ahead of their game against Equatorial Guinea as the Football Association of Malawi has cleared all their dues.

The Flames arrived in Malabo, E. Guinea on Saturday afternoon as they are expected to play their fourth game of the World Cup Qualifiers on Monday. Speaking after arriving, the leader of the delegation, Daud Mtanthiko said the morale is high in the team’s camp after the Association coughed money which the players were being owed.

“The players have been given everything that they require. Everything that is due to them, has been given in terms of whatever they are supposed to be paid.

“The players were paid all the dues, game bonuses that they were supposed to receive after the game that they played against Sao Tome and we are here and everything has been settled. We believe that no player would stand and say that he hasn’t done well in terms of play because FAM or Secretariat is owing him anything. The ball is in their hands and not in FAM leadership,” said Mtanthiko.

The win against Sao Tome gives Malawi the confidence of pulling a result against Equatorial Guinea as called by Coach, Patrick Mabedi. The Flames sit third with 6 points and just a point below Namibia who also play against Tunisia in another Group H game.

Mtanthiko has meanwhile, commended the Equatorial Guinea Football Association for its hospitality saying, “we believe that this relationship will last longer because they are giving everything that we are supposed to receive. Everything is going according to the books.”

FAM on Thursday paid the Flames players their game bonus immediately after their 3-1 win over Sao Tome and Principle in a world Cup qualifier. This is the first time ever that players have received their bonus on the same day of the match.

The players are entitled to a K500,000 bonus for a win but FAM added K250,000 on top, making it K750,000 which was paid to the players before their departure to Malabo for tomorrow’s encounter against Equatorial Guinea.

“I have been part of the Flames set up since 2011 and never have we been paid our game bonus on the same day. This is historic and very commendable.

“It just shows the new leadership has the welfare of the players at heart. FAM has done its part and has shown its commitment to improve our welfare and its now our turn to deliver on Monday,” said captain Banda.

After arriving, Malawi had a loosening session at the Bisila Palace Hotel and Mabedi who is expected to face the press today said the players are in good shape ahead of the game. “It was a long journey, but with the loosening session that we had, the players are in good shape and the morale is high,” he said.

Malawi have won two of their three games in the Group H and winning against Equatorial Guinea will send a statement of intent to other group members on their ambition of writing a piece of history qualifying for the World Cup finals, however, Mabedi plays down Malawi’s chances of getting over the line. #WaMpira #AllaboutSports
