Mulanje Park Stadium will be temporarily closed for two weeks starting September 11, 2025, to allow for essential pitch maintenance, the Mulanje District Council announced Tuesday.
The closure, which runs until September 25, is necessary to facilitate watering of the grass and lawn mowing at the facility, according to a letter from District Sports Officer Sherif Malunga to the General Secretary of the Mulanje District Football League.

“This closure is intended to facilitate the necessary maintenance of the pitch which will include watering the grass and lawn mowing,” Malunga stated in the official communication dated September 10, 2025.
The temporary shutdown will affect multiple football organizations that regularly use the venue. The Football Association of Malawi (FAM), Southern Region Football Association, and FOMO Football Club have all been notified of the closure to enable them to make appropriate adjustments to their fixture schedules.
Local football leagues are now being advised to consider relocating games that were meant to take place at the facility to alternative venues during the maintenance period. The district council has requested the cooperation of all affected organizations in accommodating these necessary changes.
The maintenance work comes as part of ongoing efforts to maintain the quality of sports facilities in the Mulanje district. The stadium serves as a crucial venue for local football activities and community sports events.
Officials expect the facility to reopen on schedule following the completion of the maintenance work, allowing normal football activities to resume by the end of September.
The Mulanje District Council has expressed appreciation for the continued support and cooperation of the football community during this temporary disruption.
