Mighty Waka Waka Tigers Head Coach, Leo Mpulura said he wants to continue sharpening his players despite registering a big 4-1 win over winless Baka City Football Club on Thursday in Blantyre.

An own goal in the first half by Robert Kolneli and Second goals from Alex Kambirinya, Irvine Mwakapenda, and Masambelo Kalua were enough for Mighty Waka Waka Tigers to pick their third win of the season after hammering Baka City 4-1 at the Kamuzu Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

The Kaukau boys displayed a massive performance in the match but missed a lot of chances before having a 6-minute party in the second half to score three goals but Taniel Mhango’s late consolation goal could not do any harm.

Head coach for Tigers, Leo Mpulula, said he was happy to record the win but still claimed there were a lot of things that needed to be rectified mostly in terms of shaping the team after missing a lot of goal-able chances.

“It was a good game because we won 4-1 but there’s much to be done mostly in terms of shaping today three points were good as well.” Said Mpulula.

Tigers have now moved to the top five with 11 points from seven games. The target of the team is to make it into the top 8 as said by Leo Mpulura after being appointed as the Head Coach of the team earlier this year.

For the past two years, the Kau-Kau Boys have been struggling with consistency and they had to wait until the last games to confirm their stay in the elite league. Mpulura returned to the Club to change the narrative.

Last season, they recorded just one win from their opening nine games, beating Extreme FC in their first game of the season. They played draw games against Bangwe All Stars, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, Mafco FC, Silver Strikers, and Dedza Dynamos, losing to Civil Service United and Mzuzu City Hammers.

“At this juncture, three points are very important and we need to take a game at a time. We will go back to our ground and work with the players so that we take those chances when we create.

“We are encouraging the players to apply what they learned during training and I hope gradually, they will be picking it up. In our previous games, we were failing to shoot on goals,” added Mpulura.

In 2023, the Kanjeza-based side recorded eight wins out of 30 games but they have recorded three wins out of the seven games. They started the season with a disappointing 3-1 defeat to the Rookies, CRECK Sporting Club before holding FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to a barren draw in the second game of the season.

Mpulura’s boys chopped their first win with a 1-0 win over Mzuzu City Hammers before suffering a 3-1 defeat to Karonga United. They beat Chitipa United and played a 1-all draw against Dedza Dynamos.

The 4-1 win over Baka City is Tigers’ biggest win since beating Blue Eagles 3-0 in July 2018.
