Mighty Mukuru Wanderers head coach Bob Mpinganjira expressed dissatisfaction with the officiating in their 2-2 draw against Silver Strikers on Sunday, criticizing the performance of referee Mwai Msungama and his officiating panel.
Mpinganjira claimed that both teams were left frustrated by some of the decisions made during the match, particularly in the closing stages. His side thought they had snatched all three points when Blessings Mwalilino struck in the 91st minute, only for Chinsinsi Maonga to equalize with a stunning free kick just two minutes later.
“It’s very disappointing,” Mpinganjira said. “The players put in a great shift, and I’m proud of their performance. Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on our side.”

Reflecting on the officiating, Mpinganjira didn’t mince his words:
“Sometimes in football, you think you’ve done everything right, but your opponents capitalize on the few moments you switch off. Still, I believe the players showed character and are heading in the right direction.”
His assistant, Mpulumutsi ‘Vasco’ Ngwenya, also took aim at the officiating, questioning the decision that led to Silver’s late equalizer.
“I didn’t see any foul leading to that free kick,” he argued. “Even our friends from Silver Strikers were surprised. Referees can’t be perfect, but at least they should strive to be fair.”
Despite the setback, Mpinganjira also praised Silver Strikers’ head coach Pieter de Jongh, acknowledging the tactical discipline that made the match a difficult contest. The result means Wanderers drop points for the first time this season, missing a chance to close the gap on league leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
The Nomads now sit second on the log with 13 points from five games—four wins and one draw—while their Blantyre rivals lead the table with a perfect record of 18 points from six matches.
Mpinganjira’s men will now turn their attention to the highly anticipated Blantyre Derby against Big Bullets this Saturday, where high spirits and sharper focus will be needed to reignite their title chase.
