Mighty Wanderers head coach Bob Mpinganjira was full of praise for his charges following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Ekhaya FC.
Mpinganjira, however, conceded that it was a tough fixture and applauded Ekhaya for delivering a competitive performance.
“I am very happy that we have won and collected three crucial points. It was a very difficult game—you saw how Ekhaya played. They put on a solid display and they wanted to win,” he said.

He added that the win fuels their belief in the title chase, despite only converting once in a match where they crafted several scoring opportunities.
“Of course, we created a lot of chances but only netted once. Still, I am satisfied. These are tough games, and if you grab a goal and grind out the win, you are lucky,” he noted.
Mpinganjira also highlighted that their unbeaten run has boosted the squad’s confidence and drive to keep pushing forward.
Wanderers clinched the win thanks to a moment of brilliance from Gaddie Chirwa in the 54th minute. His thunderbolt strike rifled into the top right corner, leaving Ekhaya goalkeeper Ellias Missi helpless as he made an attempt but to no avail.
Chirwa took full advantage of Ekhaya’s lapse in closing him down, as Blessings Singini teed him up in acres of space just outside the box. Singini, who bossed the midfield, was later named Man of the Match.

The victory launched Wanderers to the top of the table, boasting 29 points from a possible 33.
They have chalked up nine wins and two draws in their campaign so far.
Next on their fixture list is a home clash against struggling Mzuzu City Hammers, scheduled for Saturday, July 19 at Kamuzu Stadium.
The squad might still be without the attacking duo of Sama Thierry Tangonj and Clement Nyondo, along with seasoned goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa, all sidelined due to injury. However, Chimwemwe Nkhoma and Mphatso Kamanga could be in contention after returning to light training.
Captain Lawrence Chaziya, who made the bench against Ekhaya, is back with the squad and might return to action in their upcoming battle against Moyale.
Wanderers are sponspored by Thomson Mpinganjira who owns Ekhaya Farms and also the team’s president while Ekhaya are owned by William Mpinganjira-a son to Thomson and an overseer of Ekhaya brands. It was a family affair, and in the picture below, coaches from both teams show that despite the result, no love lost
