Micium Mhone scored the only goal of the game as Blue Eagles secured a narrow but hard-fought 1-0 away win over Karonga United at Karonga Stadium on Saturday.

The visitors absorbed sustained pressure for most of the match but held on thanks to a first-half strike from Mhone, who was later named Man of the Match.

Karonga United started brightly and dictated play in the early exchanges, enjoying the lion’s share of possession. They created a few half-chances through Benjamin Maponda and Alfred Chazinga, but their efforts lacked precision, failing to test the Eagles’ goalkeeper.

Despite Karonga’s dominance, it was Blue Eagles who broke the deadlock in the 24th minute. A clever assist from Gilbert Chirwa released Micium Mhone, who beat two defenders before calmly slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to give the visitors a surprising lead.

The goal sparked a brief period of confidence from the Eagles, who pressed forward again and earned a corner, though it was dealt with by the hosts. Karonga continued to push for an equalizer, but the Eagles’ backline, led by a well-organized defensive unit, remained impenetrable.

The teams went into halftime with Blue Eagles leading 1-0, thanks to Mhone’s clinical finish.

Karonga began the second half with renewed intent. Allen Chihana fired wide early on, and substitute Sinto Chipole, who came on alongside Alixk Austin in the 60th minute, added energy to the attack, although he was booked shortly after for a rash challenge.

Despite sustained pressure, the home side failed to convert their dominance into clear-cut chances. Eagles’ defense, marshaled with discipline, absorbed wave after wave of Karonga attacks.

In the closing minutes, Karonga appeared to run out of ideas, resorting to long-range efforts that failed to trouble the Eagles’ keeper. The visitors made a few substitutions to shore up their midfield and run down the clock, including the introductions of Laurent Banda and John Banda.

Micium Mhone was deservedly named Man of the Match for his match-winning goal and overall contribution to the Eagles’ disciplined performance.

The win is a significant boost for Blue Eagles, who continue to climb the TNM Super League table with renewed momentum. For Karonga United, it was a frustrating afternoon where possession and effort failed to translate into points.
