Mchinji Villa Football Club (FC), a side in the NBS National Division League, has suspended its head coach, Eliya Phiri, for four weeks following a dismal start to the season. The suspension is effective from July 1, 2025.
The Mchinji-based club currently languishes second from the bottom of the league table, having secured a mere three points from three draws in their six matches played so far, with no wins to their name.

A letter from the club, signed by General Secretary Caroline Mbewe, Chairperson John Chirwa, and Team Manager Denis Milala, cited “unpalatable performance” and a lack of “impact on the team as well as the community” as reasons for the suspension.
Chifuniro Chimkokomo has been appointed as the club’s caretaker coach during Phiri’s suspension.
Elsewhere in the NBS National Division League, Red Lions from Zomba continue to assert their dominance, leading the standings with 15 points from five wins in six games, suffering only one defeat.
Following closely behind are Mitundu Baptist, Bangwe All Stars, and Baka City, all tied with 12 points, holding second, third, and fourth places respectively.
At the very bottom of the table, Jenda United FC is struggling, having failed to secure a single point. They have conceded 14 goals while managing to score only twice.
