Kamuzu Barracks FC delivered a commanding performance to beat Blue Eagles 3-0 in a TNM Super League match played at Champions Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with John Francis Mchema netting a brace and assisting another.
The match kicked off at 14:33 with both sides showing high intensity in the opening minutes. However, it was Kamuzu Barracks who looked more composed and purposeful as the half wore on.
Blue Eagles had the first notable chance in the 13th minute when Tonic Viyuyi failed to convert a perfect delivery from Laurent Banda, allowing the KB defence to recover and clear the danger. The Eagles thought they had taken the lead four minutes later through Laurent Banda, but the assistant referee’s flag was already up for offside.

Kamuzu Barracks capitalised on their next big opportunity in the 22nd minute when John Mchema connected well with a Lumbani Mkandawire assist to break the deadlock. Despite Blue Eagles’ protests after Mhone was brought down in the box in the 27th minute, referee Enes Gumbo waved play on.
Mchema came close again with a powerful free kick in the 30th minute, forcing a fine save from Eagles keeper Masamba. As the hosts continued pressing, they were rewarded again just before the break. Samson Chiponda set up Mchema for his second goal in the 45th minute, sending Kamuzu Barracks into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Both sides made changes at the break. Zeliat Nkhoma came in for Shultan Mhango for KB, while Lanken Mwale replaced Sankhani Mkandawire for Eagles.
Blue Eagles showed more intent in the second half with sustained pressure and good combinations involving the Banda trio—John, Laurent, and Trouble. Laurent Banda saw his powerful effort saved by substitute keeper Hastings Banda in the 69th minute, before John Banda forced another brilliant stop six minutes later.
Kamuzu Barracks killed the contest in the 78th minute when Zeliat Nkhoma made it 3-0, finishing off a well-threaded pass from man-of-the-match Mchema.
Despite late substitutions and a flurry of attacks from Eagles, Kamuzu Barracks defended resolutely to seal a deserved clean sheet and maximum points.
