Fresh from clinching the Airtel Top 8 title over Silver Strikers and securing a narrow 1-0 win over Karonga United in the TNM Super League, respectively, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets return to action this Sunday, July 27, as they host Blue Eagles at Kamuzu Stadium.
The People’s Team, currently second on the league table with 27 points from 11 matches, will be looking to maintain their winning momentum and close the gap at the summit. Head coach Peter Mponda said his side has already shifted focus from their recent cup success and is fully geared up for league duty.
“Preparations are going well, and the response from the players is positive. We have made it clear to them that this is not an Airtel Top 8 game. It is a different competition and demands a different approach. We have increased the intensity in our training,” said Mponda.

He also acknowledged the strength of their opponents, noting Blue Eagles’ current position and recent results.
“Blue Eagles are a good side. Numbers don’t lie. They are sitting fifth and managed to collect maximum points in Karonga, which is never easy. That says a lot about their quality. But they are coming to our backyard, and we need these three points at all cost.”
Bullets will be without their captain, Lloyd Aaron, who recently completed a move to Muaither SC in Qatar. However, Mponda remains confident that leadership within the squad is still intact.
“We are not short of leaders. The remaining players will step up and execute the captain’s role,” he assured.
From the visiting camp, Blue Eagles head coach Deklerk Msakakuona expects an entertaining and competitive match, and he is optimistic about his team’s chances.
“Both teams have experienced players and a history of thrilling encounters. Whenever we face Bullets, it’s always a good game, and I am confident this will be no different. The team that creates and converts chances will carry the day,” Msakakuona said.
Having recently beaten Karonga United away, Eagles will be hoping to maintain their form and claim another major scalp on the road.
“When you come from a win, you aim to continue winning. We just need to sit down, strategize, and I believe the boys will deliver,” he added.
Both sides are managing a few injury concerns, but with deep squads, neither coach is using that as an excuse.
With Bullets sitting second on 27 points from 11 games and Blue Eagles trailing by five points in fifth place having played a game more, Sunday’s clash promises fireworks and could prove pivotal in shaping the title race.
