The Malawi Under-17 national team has been placed in a very tough group after being drawn alongside African giants South Africa and Zambia in the TotalEnergies CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations COSAFA Qualifiers 2026.

This was confirmed following a draw conducted by COSAFA on Tuesday, during which the association also made a draw for the COSAFA CAF Women’s Championship, where Malawi will be represented by Kukoma Ntopwa Queens.

Malawi finds itself in Group B with the two regional powerhouses, and Madagascar has also joined the group, which is already being described as the “Group of Death.”

Zambia are the defending champions of the competition and the most successful team in its history, while South Africa are second on the list of most prolific winners, making the Junior Flames clear underdogs in the group.

Group A comprises Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Comoros, and Eswatini, while
Group C contains last year’s beaten finalists Angola, alongside Botswana, Mauritius, and Lesotho.

The top three teams in the competition will qualify for the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations finals. The tournament will be played in Harare, Zimbabwe, from September 11–20, 2025.
