Mzuzu City-based Mighty Mukuru Wanderers supporters were treated with disappointment after seeing their team going down to Mzuzu City Hammers. The team’s performance left the fans unimpressed as the Northern Region-based side claimed their first win over the Nomads.

After a morale-sapping 2-0 defeat to Silver Strikers, the Nomads were looking for a bounce back but two goals first-half from Isaac Msiska were enough to inflict extreme pain on Wanderers who are on a “making Mighty mighty again” campaign.

Following the defeat, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers remain 4th with 12 points but could drop down the table depending on Sunday’s results.

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers suffered their first back-to-back in the TNM Super League since 2022 [when they lost to Moyale Barracks and Civil Service United]. They are now 10 points adrift of the leaders, Silver Strikers who showed their determination to claim a win in a “dead” game against Karonga United on Saturday.

After an unsuccessful 4-4-2 formation against the Bankers, Ramadan and his coaching staff opted for a 4-3-3 formation with Felix Zulu paving the way for Mphatso Kamanga in midfield.

Mzuzu City Hammers brilliance in midfield dissolved Wanderers’ three-man midfield forcing the coach to make a change before the break with Zulu replacing Kamanga.

Msiska has now scored six goals for the Hammers, going level with Emmanuel Saviel of Civil Service United. Blessings Singini tried to rescue his team against his former team but his three efforts couldn’t beat the keeper, Eddie Jamu.

Msiska sneaked through the Nomad’s defense to power home Erik Kaonga’s ball before finishing a flooring move just before the break.

Dreaming Hammers too good for Wanderers

Mzuzu City Hammers have now gone second, 6 points behind Silver Strikers. Their win against Wanderers was their first after six unsuccessful attempts.

From kick-off, the hosts looked more organized and it was Isaac Msiska’s finest hours. Mighty Mukuru Wanderers were outfought, and outfoxed, Chimwemwe Chunga and Wongan Lungu had easy channels from midfield.

The organization of Hammers couldn’t get disorganized though the visitors piled late pressure. After a 2-0 defeat to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, the Iron Boys received a boost before the game after landing a sponsorship on the man of the match.

Isaiah Nyirenda and Isaac Msiska usually start as two strikers in Ellias Chirambo’s 4-4-2 on paper, Chunga and Teaser Nyirenda who were opted in wide attack added numbers in midfield.

Their good start to the game pre-told the Iron Boys who turned up for the game in Maloon. They mauled the Nomads. Wanderers escaped two early scares from Hammers as Chisomo Sambani was denied by the defenders before William Thole denied him. Lawrence Chaziya made an excellent block to rescue the Nomads from Chunga’s longing ball.

The Nomads hanging on a razor blaze’s edges, they got themselves cut just after 22 minutes. Erik Kaonga whipped an inviting ball from free-kick and Msiska beat the visitors’ defence and put the ball beyond Thole’s reach.

The visitors tried to pressurize the hosts but Hammers could switch to 6-3-1 to absorb the pressure before dashing their hopes of coming back into the game.

Isaiah Nyirenda opened Wanderers’ back-line with a splitting pass sensing Chunga’s move, the referee was about to award a penalty to Hammers but Msiska was quick to nod the ball into the back of the net.

The Nomads had to look for a comeback in the second half but Hammers had plans to absorb them, they hammered them, and Msiska stole the show.
