Chitipa United has recorded back-to-back victories, propelling them to 9th on the log table after a resounding 4-0 win over Songwe Border United at Karonga Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Rajab Nyirenda was the orchestrator of Chitipa’s dominant attack on the rookies, scoring one goal and assisting Trouble Kajani in the first half. The second half saw Mabuchi Msiska and Andrew Lameck also find the back of the net, sealing an impressive and comprehensive victory for the home side.
Kondwa Ikwanga, head coach for Chitipa United, praised his squad for their brilliant performance throughout the game.

“It was a game that we had been looking forward to, to at least get three points, that was our plan,” Ikwanga stated after the match.
“To analyze the whole game, they [Songwe Border United] had chances, they could have scored, but somehow, they gave us a good game.”
Ikwanga highlighted the strategic shift after the early goals. “Because of the goals that we scored earlier, we started maintaining possession and we took the game into their own half. This is what I wanted, to have the game in their own half and at least we have done it better by scoring more goals.”
“That’s not the end of the world after winning two games consecutively. We are planning to push, push; we are trying to look forward to getting into higher positions. You know, there is no small team in the Super League, regardless of the scoreline today.”
He also offered words of encouragement for their opponents. “The team [Songwe Border United] just needs confidence; they are equally a good team, and people should not just say that they are a walkover, but they are a good team.”
Looking ahead, Ikwanga revealed his ambitious targets for the remainder of the season. “But for us, we want to push forward, win games, and we have remained with five games; we want to get at least three or four wins.”
He concluded by underscoring the importance of their upcoming fixtures: “If we push more, we can go up and up. The beginning doesn’t matter, but the ending—let’s see how it is going to be, I’m not God. We want to take the last five games as final, each game as a final.”
