Silver Strikers, known as the Central Bankers, secured their third away win of the season, defeating Creck Sporting Club 2-1 in a hard-fought TNM Super League clash at Aubrey Dimba Stadium in Mchinji on Wednesday, July 2. The Bankers’ goals came from Uchizi Vunga and super-sub Binwell Katinji, while Creck Sporting found the net through an own goal.

The first half saw Silver Strikers take an early lead. The breakthrough came from a McDonald Lameck throw-in, which was connected by Zebron Kalima, allowing Uchizi Vunga to volley the ball home.

Creck Sporting’s defense, lacking confidence and organization, struggled to contain the Bankers, and their coach Eliya Kananji was forced to make early substitutions, replacing Chris Lwemba and Bayo Fatayo with Hardy Ng’andu and Akuzike Lifa in the 33rd minute. Despite these changes, Creck failed to register a shot on target in the first half, and Silver Strikers maintained their 1-0 lead going into the break.

In the second half, Coach Kananji introduced George Chaomba and Anold Son Kiyama, which significantly improved Creck Sporting’s offensive play. Their persistence paid off in the 60th minute when they found an equalizer through an own goal from Silver Strikers’ Nickson Mwase, following impactful play from Chaomba. However, the parity was short-lived. Just five minutes later, in the 66th minute, Silver Strikers regained their lead.

Substitute Binwell Katinji, who had just come on for Dan Sandukila in the 63rd minute, scored with his very first touch, slotting home a pass from Stanie Davie after another throw-in mistake by Creck.

Silver made a late substitution, bringing on Levison Maganizo for Zebron Kalima in the 78th minute. Creck pressed hard in the dying minutes, with Jackson Beza having a chance to equalize, but Silver’s defense held firm to secure the victory.

Silver Strikers’ head coach, Peter Mgangira, acknowledged the toughness of the game, stating, “It was a tough game. When you are defending champions, everyone comes on you very hard. In the second half, the hosts came and scored, but the players did not put their face down; they picked themselves up and scored. I am happy we won the match.”

Despite the loss, Creck Sporting coach Eliya Kananji praised his team’s performance, particularly their second-half improvement. “We showed great character today and defended well for much of the game. It’s disappointing to concede that one goal, but we will learn from this and keep fighting,” Kananji remarked, noting significant improvement since he took over.

With this victory, Silver Strikers moved up one place to fourth position on the log table with 18 points. Creck Sporting, despite the loss, remains in 8th position with fourteen points from twelve games played.
