Silver Strikers captain Chikondi Kamanga says his team will approach Saturday’s CAF Champions League clash against Young Africans SC with determination and a winning mindset.
The defending Malawian champions face the Tanzanian giants at Bingu National Stadium in a crucial preliminary round tie, with a place in the group stage at stake.

Speaking ahead of the match, Kamanga drew parallels between the two clubs, emphasizing that Silver Strikers deserve respect as champions in their own right.
“The morale is high in our camp. Last time I spoke about the importance of the game against Elgeco Plus, and this match carries the same weight,” Kamanga said. “We are expecting to win this game so that we can experience the same positive outcomes we enjoyed after progressing in the first round.”
Silver Strikers advanced past Elgeco Plus in the previous round, though Kamanga acknowledged the performance wasn’t flawless.
“Yes, we can accept that we didn’t play our best against Elgeco, but football depends on how you perform on the day. Every player plays differently in every game, and each match requires its own approach. Against Yanga, we want to win.”
The captain emphasized that his squad is under no illusions about the magnitude of the challenge ahead, but sees it as an opportunity rather than a burden.
“The players are ready. We know how big Yanga is as a club, and we know how big this game is. For us, it’s a motivation, and we just need to showcase our skills,” he said.
“It’s exciting for me as captain and for the players to face good teams like Yanga. We are gaining experience of what it means to play at the higher level. Yanga is a very experienced team, but we are also champions here. It’s a big team versus a big team.”
The match kicks off on Saturday afternoon at Bingu National Stadium, with both teams eyeing a spot in the lucrative group stage of Africa’s premier club competition.
