Mighty Wanderers FC have soared to the summit of the league table after a crucial 2-0 victory over Dedza Dynamos FC on Sunday afternoon, sealed by a magnificent free-kick from Isaac Kaliati.
The Nomads wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Promise Kamwendo opening the scoring just seven minutes in. He coolly finished Wisdom Mpinganjira’s pass for his third goal of the season, putting Wanderers firmly in control.

It was an emotional return for former Wanderers player Alex Ngwira, now managing Dedza Dynamos. His side pushed for an equalizer, but Peter Cholopi led a resolute Wanderers defense that stood firm, denying Dedza any clear path to goal.
After holding a narrow lead at halftime, the Nomads came out strong in the second half. Kaliati then doubled their advantage in the 58th minute, curling a brilliant free-kick past Donnex Mwakasinga to effectively seal the win for Bob Mpinganjira’s Wanderers.
Mighty Wanderers have now stretched their impressive unbeaten run to eight games this season, boasting seven wins and just one draw.
This victory also marks Dedza Dynamos’ first defeat under Ngwira, who had previously guided them to two wins and a draw.
With this win, Wanderers have collected 22 points, leapfrogging Bullets by a single point, as the People’s Team currently sits on 21 points from eight games. Dedza, meanwhile, missed the opportunity to climb to sixth place and remain seventh with 13 points from 10 games.
Bob Mpinganjira, Wanderers’ coach, praised his team’s effort: “I’m happy that we’ve won; another three points in the bag. It wasn’t an easy game. The boys worked hard, and we got the win.”
A dejected Alex Ngwira attributed Dedza’s defeat to a lack of conviction from his players: “We haven’t played the way we planned. The boys haven’t done what we’ve been doing in training. They respected Wanderers, and we lost concentration after conceding the first goal.”
