Mighty Wanderers FC Head Coach Bob Mpinganjira expressed cautious optimism today as his injury-hit squad travels to Champion Stadium to face eighth-placed Kamuzu Barracks FC in a highly anticipated TNM Super League clash.
Despite a challenging roster situation, Mpinganjira maintained that his team is fully prepared and focused on securing a positive result.

Speaking to Wanderers Media ahead of the afternoon fixture, Mpinganjira highlighted the team’s diligent preparation.
“We have trained adequately,” he affirmed. “Our players who were with the national team joined us on Thursday, and all the boys are in high spirits to continue where we had left off before the national team break.” This return of international players is a significant boost after the recent COSAFA Cup hiatus.
The Nomads’ gaffer acknowledged the inherent difficulty of facing the “Yellow Submarines” on their home turf. “If you look at the past encounters, it has always been tough battling out with them,” Mpinganjira stated, referencing a history of close contests between the two sides. “But we will do everything possible to come out of Champion Stadium with a positive result.”
Kamuzu Barracks, known for their defensive resilience and physical play, will undoubtedly pose a stern test. They currently sit 8th in the league with 11 points from 8 games, reflecting a somewhat inconsistent but often formidable start to their campaign.
Mighty Wanderers, currently second in the TNM Super League standings with sixteen points, will be looking to maintain their strong league form. They boast an impressive record of five wins and one draw from their opening six matches, making them one of the league’s unbeaten teams. Their last outing before the international break saw them play beating their neighbours, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, a result they’ll be keen to continue with a win.
However, the “Lali Lubani Boys” arrive in Dowa with a notable list of absentees. Winger Wallace Adam has not travelled, still recovering from an injury picked up last weekend against Creck Sporting FC.
Cameroonian forward Sama Tanjong has also been strategically rested to ensure his full recovery before being exposed to competitive matches.
Further compounding Mpinganjira’s selection headache are the continued absences of goalkeepers Chancy Mtete and Richard Chipuwa, influential captain Lawrence Chaziya, and defender Chimwemwe Nkhoma, all sidelined with various injuries.
Despite these setbacks, there is positive news from the treatment room. Defender Ahmed Kung’unde returns to the squad after weeks out due to injury, providing a much-needed option at the back. Additionally, Blessings Singini, who sustained an injury while on national team duty with the Flames in South Africa, has recovered and is now fit and available for selection, adding depth to the midfield.
The match at Champion Stadium is set to be a compelling battle, with Mighty Wanderers aiming to solidify their position at the top of the table and Kamuzu Barracks determined to climb higher and prove their mettle against one of the league’s giants.
