Blue Eagles were in top form at the Nankhaka Stadium on Saturday as they scored a half dozen to down Mzuzu City Hammers 6-1 to mark a massive resurrection in style after dropping four points in their previous two matches.
Ganizani James scored a brace while Laurent Banda, Checkson Aliz, Maxwell Mbewe and Levison Mnyenyembe scored a goal as Eagles proved unstoppable and Moses Gwayi’s goal was the only moment of happiness for Hammers in the game.

A brilliant start of the game saw the hosts being awarded a penalty kick which Ganizani James netted after three minutes into the game but Moses Gwayi had to cancelled it out on the 10th minute but Laurent Banda restored the lead 12 minutes later after receiving an inviting ball from Maxwell Mbewe.
Levison Mnyenyembe could have extended the lead on 24th minute but he missed his attempt before Joshua Waka denying Gwayi with a great save then a John Banda’s corner kick was guided into the net by Ganizani James on 43rd minute and a minute later, another corner kick from Banda landed onto Checkson Aliz’s head to make it 4-1 at half time.
At half time, Erik Kaonga, Chimwemwe Kaliyala and Rafick Kabwazi came in for Mustafa Maulana, Gwayi and Alex Msiska for Hammers while James Stambuli came in for Schumacher Kuwali for Eagles then Kabwazi sent his header wide before Brian Banda coming in for Pearson Mbizi on 57th minute.
Maxwell Mbewe received a beautiful ball from Ian Chinyama to extend the lead on 66th minute then Stambuli was denied with a great save two minutes later before Tonic Viyuyi, Micium Mhone, Geoffrey Maluwa and Hezekiah Chinseu replacing Laurent Banda, Aliz, Mbewe and Waka and Mnyenyembe hammered the last nail on the 92nd minute with a well taken goal.
Head coach for the winning side, Eliya Kananji, said his team utilised their chances hence scoring 6 past Hammers. “In the past games we’ve been struggling to get goals because we were not recording shots on target but today we created many chances that we have utilised them.”
On his part, Assistant coach for the Hammers, Luckson Mauluka Nyoni, said his team has contributed to their own loss.” That early penalty disturbed us and also we conceded two goals from corner kicks in two minutes so I would say we have contributed to the loss. We are worried now because we are conceding too much.”
The victory takes Eagles up to fourth on the Standings with 11 points from 7 matches having won three, drawn two and lost two while Hammers stuck in the relegation zone with four points from five games after earning one win, one draw and three defeats.
