Zambian club Green Buffaloes has reached an agreement with Mighty Wanderers for the permanent transfer of striker Christopher Kumwembe, Wa Mpira can reveal.
Kumwembe spent the 2024/25 season on a year-long loan at Buffaloes and returned home to Malawi at the end of the MTN Super League season. Since returning, the former Civil Service United striker has not been training with Wanderers, as the club gave him time to rest after a busy season in Zambia.
Wanderers had originally planned to bring him back into the squad to strengthen the team for their 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup campaign. However, Green Buffaloes approached them to make the move permanent, tabling a deal that enticed the Nomads to let him go.

Kumwembe has a release clause of $25,000, and Buffaloes initially paid $15,000 for the loan agreement—a deal insiders described as “profitable” for Wanderers. Rather than blocking the player’s move, the club negotiated a new deal with their Zambian counterparts, and Kumwembe will join Buffaloes for a fee below his initial price tag.
The striker has already traveled to Zambia to begin pre-season preparations with Buffaloes ahead of the new season, which kicks off this month.
Kumwembe joined Wanderers in 2022 on a three-year deal from Civil Service United, playing just one and a half seasons with the team before his loan. It’s believed he signed a new contract in 2024 before heading to Buffaloes on loan.
Green Buffaloes was impressed with Kumwembe’s performance at the 2023 COSAFA Cup in South Africa. Despite a difficult loan spell, the club remains confident that the player is capable of delivering.
