Dedza Dynamos find themselves in a desperate fight for TNM Super League survival after managing just one goal in their last six matches, leaving head coach Alex Ngwira searching for answers with only seven games remaining.
With 23 points from 23 games, Dedza Dynamos sit precariously just one place above the relegation zone. Their alarming goal drought has left them winless in their last six outings—four defeats and two draws—and raised serious questions about their ability to secure the points needed for survival.

The statistics paint a grim picture. Dedza have managed just 17 goals in 23 matches this season while conceding 27 times. Their attacking struggles reached a nadir in recent weeks, with heavy defeats to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets (3-0), and 1-0 losses to Mighty Wanderers, Mzuzu City Hammers, and Chitipa United. Their lone goal came in a 1-1 draw against Ekhaya FC, and they were held scoreless even against 10-man Silver Strikers in their most recent outing.
Head coach Alex Ngwira has openly acknowledged the team’s goal-scoring crisis but insists progress is being made behind the scenes.
“We are still missing a lot of chances. We have to look at the nature and structure of our team. You know we have been struggling with strikers,” Ngwira admitted. “However, we are building up. That’s why in most cases we say that we are laying a foundation for a team which will be born next season—as long as we keep ourselves in the Super League.”
Despite the poor results, Ngwira believes the foundations are being laid for future success. “I feel that we have a very strong team because we have learned our weaknesses, particularly going forward,” he said.
The current season represents a significant regression from Dedza’s previous campaigns. In 2022, they scored 29 goals in 30 matches and conceded 36. The 2023 season saw them net 30 goals while conceding 38, and in 2024 they managed 32 goals with 31 conceded.
With only seven matches remaining and just 17 goals scored, Dedza are on track to finish with their lowest goal tally in recent memory—a worrying trend for a side fighting relegation.
Dedza face fellow relegation battlers Mighty Tigers on Sunday in what could prove a pivotal encounter. Tigers sit 14th with 22 points from 23 matches, making this a must-win fixture for both sides.
“With the games that we have played, we can see that there is light at the end of the tunnel and we can work hard so that we get the points against Tigers,” Ngwira said. “In all the games that we have been playing, we have been able to create chances and we are trying.”
However, Ngwira highlighted squad depth as a major concern. “We need to have a healthy squad. We have a small squad and injuries can hinder our progress. For example, against Ekhaya in Blantyre we lost Marco Chiwaya who got injured, and without him it’s back to square one. He has been scoring goals for us.”
With seven games to determine their fate, Dedza Dynamos must find their shooting boots quickly or face the prospect of playing in a lower division next season.
