The agreement targets 2,000 footballers associated with FAM, addressing a critical need that often affects female athletes’ performance and participation.

“We have moved in to help footballers with menstrual hygiene cups because we understand football is not just a physical game—it is also a mental game. The girls have to be confident when on the field of play,” Mrs. Mia explained.

She highlighted the cost-effectiveness of the donation, noting that one Mina Cup lasts between five to ten years, eliminating the need for regular purchases of other sanitary products. The complete package contains 2,000 Mina Silicon Menstrual Hygiene Cups valued at 100 million kwacha.

“FAM leadership welcomes initiative”

—The cups will boost confidence in players—FAM President, Fleetwood Haiya

FAM President Fleetwood Haiya accepted the donation and thanked the Gift of the Givers foundation for their support of women’s football development.

“The Mina Silicon Menstrual Hygiene Cups will boost confidence in the players since they are sustainable, comfortable and safe to manage menstrual periods. This will inspire other girls to join the game,” Haiya said.

He emphasized how the cups could improve player performance by giving athletes confidence to play without fear, addressing a barrier that has historically affected women’s participation in sports.

The donation will benefit approximately 350 footballers playing in the NBM Women’s Premiership, about 720 footballers in regional division leagues, and players at all levels of the national team, including the under-20 squad preparing for World Cup qualifiers in South Sudan.

Haiya assured the donor organization of FAM’s commitment to accountability in managing the donation, stating: “We understand there are more donations to come from the Gift of the Givers. We want to assure you that you have found a partner that you will wish you had found a long time ago.”
