Flames striker Gabadinho Mhango has broken his silence following his departure from South African Premier Soccer League side Marumo Gallants, confirming he’s exploring options both locally and internationally for his next move.
His contract with Gallants officially ends on June 30, and the club announced his release along with eight other players earlier this week.

Mhango, who netted five goals and provided one assist in 25 appearances for Gallants, expressed his readiness for a fresh start.
“At the moment, I won’t reveal too much about my future, but I am speaking to a few teams, both in South Africa and abroad,” Mhango told KickOff.com. “Locally, I am in talks with several clubs in the Betway Premiership. I’m leaving my current club because I think it’s time for me to start a new chapter.”
When pressed about his future, Mhango remained tight-lipped about specific clubs but emphasized his desire to get back on the pitch and enjoy the game he loves. “Regarding my situation with Gallants, that’s something my manager is handling. I’m just focused on other matters. What will be done will be done,” he stated.
Mhango also addressed his tendency to move between clubs, admitting he isn’t entirely sure why it happens. “[Laughs] I don’t know. Maybe it’s that a team no longer wants my services, or perhaps I’m looking for a new chapter because I love new challenges,” he mused.
“Going forward, it’s just about me playing again and enjoying the game because I truly love it. If I find a team here, that’s great; if it’s abroad, that’s good too. That’s where my focus is right now.”
Praise for Gavin Hunt and Embracing Competition
The Malawian international also took time to credit former coach Gavin Hunt, currently unattached, as the coach who understood him best. “The coach who understood me the most is Gavin Hunt, who is currently without a team. He knows my playing style and taught me a lot,” Mhango shared.
“He played a significant role in my career by encouraging me to be myself. However, I respect all the coaches I’ve worked with throughout my career.”
Mhango acknowledged the dynamics of professional football, recognizing that coaches often have players who fit their specific systems.
He also highlighted his appreciation for competition, stating, “I understand that every coach has players who fit their system. I love competition; in football, competition makes you a better player and prevents you from becoming too comfortable.”
Mhango is heavily linked with a move to Richards Bay FC.
