Midfielder Frank Phiri was the hero for Creck Sporting Club on Saturday afternoon, scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Moyale Barracks at Aubrey Dimba Stadium. The win marks new coach Eliya Kananji’s first triumph since taking the helm.

Phiri, who watched the previous match against Civil Service United from the bench, made a strong return to the starting lineup. His first-half strike, just seven minutes in, came from a precise ball from Dalitso Nahipa and was enough to secure all three points for Creck.

Creck Sporting Club entered the match in 11th place and were eager for points to climb the league table.

They showed their intent early against a Moyale side hampered by suspensions and injuries. The win has propelled Creck up to 8th in the standings with 14 points from 11 games. Conversely, it condemns the “Lions of Kaning’ina” to their third consecutive defeat of the season.
A delighted Eliya Kananji expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance.

“Losing two games was painful, but we had to encourage our boys to work hard. I have to praise the guys for their performances,” he said.

Kananji also highlighted the depth of his squad, noting, “We made six changes, but the players we put in played well, showing that we have a good, competitive squad.”

Moyale Barracks coach Prichard Mwansa acknowledged the painful reality of three consecutive losses. “It’s not good for us. We have lost to Hammers, Bullets, and Creck,” he lamented.

While acknowledging the absence of some key players, Mwansa stressed the need for improvement: “The available players were supposed to give us what we wanted. But as coaches, we also have to improve a lot of things. We have a good squad, but losing three games consecutively is not good for Moyale. It’s very painful.”

Creck Sporting Club will face Silver Strikers in their next match. Moyale Barracks have a challenging schedule ahead, with fixtures against Silver Strikers and Dedza Dynamos. However, all fixtures are subject to change.
