Football spectators in Chitipa district welcome the top flight League in the district in style after the newly opened Chitipa Stadium made K18.2 million in its first TNM Super League match when Chitipa United hosted Creck Sporting Club on Sunday.
The Basongo used the facility for the very first time for the high profile match since Football Association of Malawi gave a nod to the Stadium to host Elite football matches and fans flooded into the stadium to enjoy the game.
The game grossed K18.2 million and teams walked away with K4.1 million each making an impression that the facility could be one of the Stadia to earn a lot of revenue in the country.

The general secretary for Chitipa United, Watson Kabaghe thanked fans from the district for the wonderful display in the first game and hoped this will solve the team’s financial woes.
“When playing home matches at Karonga Stadium or Mzuzu Stadium, we needed also spend a lot because a bus needed fuel, then accommodation and allowances to the players but now, we will spend less and with this impression, we will be getting the money found on the gate which will solve our problems.” Said Kabaghe.
Despite this excited from the fans, the team failed to gift them a victory as they were held to a goalless draw by Creck Sporting Club.
However, the team has now gone 7 games without a defeat and without conceding a goal making it one of the best defensive teams in the League and their star, Eric Atsigah bagged his third man of the match award into the game.
Speaking after the game, head coach Kondwa Ikwanga, said his boys were under pressure as they for the first time playing under a huge patronage but pledged for better results in thr forthcoming matches.
“It was a tough one you know we were under pressure, pressure at home? The boys have never played under this kind of huge supporters but it was good, we had a huge support and I believe the players are now used, we will give them a better result in the coming games.” Said Ikwanga.
On his part, Elias Kananji of Creck Sporting Club thanked his boys for their performance into the game.
“It was a tough one as Chitipa is now playing on their actual home so they had the whole support behind them but my players did well, taking a point here was not simple.” Said Kananji.
Chitipa United sit 10th on the table with 15 points from three wins, 6 draws and four defeats while Creck Sporting Club are 7th with 18 points from five wins, three draws and 6 defeats in the League.
