Malawi’s national football team, the Flames, may have had a disappointing COSAFA Cup campaign, failing to score or win in three matches, but their players quickly redeemed themselves with stellar performances for their respective clubs over the weekend.
Gaddie Chirwa, who started two matches for the Flames, was a standout performer for Mighty Wanderers in their dominant 3-0 victory over Kamuzu Barracks at the Champions Stadium.

Chirwa scored one goal and assisted another, earning him the man of the match award. In the same match, Wisdom Mpinganjira and Blessings Singini also found the back of the net.
Other Flames players featuring in the game included Emmanuel Nyirenda (starter), Promise Kamwendo (substitute), and Timothy Silwimba (on the bench). For Kamuzu Barracks, Zeliat Nkhoma started, while Olson Kanjira was on the bench.
Blessings Mpokera earned the player of the match award as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets secured a 2-0 win against Mighty Tigers.
In that fixture, Wongani Lungu was substituted at halftime, Chawanangwa Gumbo came on as a substitute on the hour mark, and Andrew Juvinala provided an assist for the second goal.
Elsewhere, Mcdonald Lameck and George Chikooka both started for Silver Strikers in their 1-1 draw against Blue Eagles.
Allen Chihana was a key player for Karonga United as they defeated Mzuzu City Hammers 2-0. Finally, Charles Nkhoma featured in a 0-0 draw against Chitipa United.
