Former Royal AM and Maritzburg United head coach John Maduka has found a new home, taking the reins at ambitious Betway Premiership club Magesi FC.
The 54-year-old mentor had been a free agent since his last stint with Royal AM, a club that was dissolved midway through last season amid chaos stemming from an investigation into club boss Shawn Mkhize by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and a FIFA ban over unpaid player monies. The ensuing turmoil ultimately led to the PSL effectively removing Royal AM from the league.
Maduka steps in to replace Owen Da Gama, who guided Magesi to a 13th-place finish in the Betway Premiership after taking over from Clinton Larsen in December 2024.

Magesi, also known as “Dikwena tša Meetse,” will enter the new season as the defending champions of the Carling Black Label Cup, having secured a memorable title run last season by defeating both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Maduka’s primary goal will be to improve on the club’s 13th-place league finish. However, he will face this challenge without at least 10 players who have been released, including notable names like Ntsako Neverdie Makhubela, Gift Motupa, and Given Mashikinya.
Additionally, key striker Wonderboy Makhubu has returned to Sekhukhune United following the end of his loan spell.
