The inaugural FDH Bank Netball Premier League is set to commence this Saturday in Lilongwe with playoffs to determine the final four teams that will join the league.
This marks a significant milestone in Malawian netball, following the Netball Association of Malawi’s (NAM) MK1.2 billion partnership with FDH Bank to establish the country’s first-ever national netball league. The sponsorship, spread over four years, allocates MK300 million annually to support the league’s operations.
Eight teams have already secured their spots in the 12-team league: Blue Eagles, Civil Netball Club, Ekwendeni Resource, Karonga Queens, Kukoma Diamonds, Tigresses, Prison Queens, and Airforce Falcons. The remaining four slots will be contested in the playoffs by teams from various regions:

- Eastern Region: Marine Queens and Genius Sisters

To ensure regional diversity, the teams will be placed into different pots during the draw, preventing clubs from the same region from facing each other in the initial playoff matches.
The playoffs will take place at the Area 30 Netball Court in Lilongwe, with matches scheduled throughout the day. The top four teams emerging from these playoffs will complete the league’s roster, setting the stage for a competitive season ahead.
This initiative by NAM, in collaboration with FDH Bank, aims to elevate the standard of netball in the country, providing a structured and competitive environment for teams nationwide.
FDH Bank Netball Premier League General Secretary, Tadala Billie said all participating teams have already been informed about the Playoffs dates and they expect to have competitive games.
“We are looking forward to producing the best teams to join the eight seeded teams. We want to test the strengths of teams from all regions,” she said.
