First Capital Bank (FCB) has clarified its decision to select Silver Strikers as the opponent for FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ 30th Anniversary Celebration match, prioritizing a “thrilling contest” over traditional rivalries.
FCB, the official sponsors of the People’s Team, announced on Wednesday that the special commemorative match will take place at the Bingu National Stadium on June 29th.

The choice of opponent, however, raised some eyebrows, with many anticipating a clash against long-standing rivals Mighty Wanderers.
When questioned about this decision, Twikale Chirwa, FCB’s Head of Marketing and Communication, explained their rationale. “Silver Strikers are the defending champions of the TNM Super League, choosing them guarantees a thrilling contest,” Chirwa stated, emphasizing the desire for a high-stakes and exciting encounter.
The two titans of Malawian football already met earlier this year in the 2025 TNM Super League season opener at the very same venue. On that occasion, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets emerged victorious with a 1-0 win, thanks to a decisive strike from Babatunde Adepoju.
