The K25 million Chipiku Stores Premier Division League second round kicks off today, November 1st, with eight exciting fixtures for football fans.

League leaders Blue Eagles Reserve, who top the 16-team table with 35 points from 15 games, aim to maintain their momentum as they host military side Armour Battalion from Mvera at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe. The Area 30 outfit hopes to replicate—or even surpass—their impressive first-round record of 11 wins, 2 draws, and 2 losses.

Eagles assistant coach Alupheus Nyoni anticipates a tough match, considering the break his team had after completing the first round earlier than others.

“We have prepared well for the match, though we know it will be tough. Our players may lack match fitness after the break, but we have the target of winning the championship, so we want to start on a high note to maintain our first-round momentum,” said Nyoni. “We have strengthened the squad during the transfer window and we are ready. The man-of-the-match accolades will definitely boost team performance; however, we have warned players against individual play rather than teamwork.”

The 2024 FAM Moto Division One champions have bolstered their squad with Enock Jobo, Ganizani Witness, Wisdom Khuni, Misheck Jere, Blessings Phiri, and Frank Milli, who join as replacements for Andrew Mapemba, Pius Saka, and Webster Mzunda, among others promoted to the senior team.

In the first round, the encounter between Blue Eagles Reserve and Armour Battalion in Salima ended 1-1.

Discipline and Fair Play Expected

The Central Region Football Association (CRFA) expects discipline from all stakeholders, including teams, referees, and supporters.

CRFA General Secretary Antonio Manda stated, “We are expecting total discipline from all stakeholders for the league to conclude smoothly. This round, the player of the match will receive K50,000, so we anticipate stiffer competition amongst players.”

“To ensure transparency and fairness in the selection process, football reporters will collaborate closely with our designated coordinators in identifying and recommending deserving players for the awards,” Manda added.

Chipiku Stores Regional Administrator Brown Mkangama expressed satisfaction that the first round concluded with minimal issues, which CRFA addressed easily.

“We are looking forward to a successful second round and expect teams and supporters to cooperate as they did in the first round. We are expecting more competition amongst the teams,” said Mkangama.
