The league, worth K1.2 million, is being sponsored by local businessperson Symon Inki Phiri, popularly known as Ginnery Corner, and youthful football enthusiast Peter Kapolo.
According to Machemba, despite encountering some officiating challenges, the experience has been a valuable learning process.
“We have learnt a lot from the games and we are expecting a tough second round,” Machemba said.
She also commended the teams for providing competitive matches, noting that the district has considerable talent.
“We hope to expose more talent through the league, and we would like to appreciate our two sponsors for trusting us with their resources,” she added.
Machemba revealed that the league will resume soon, with organizers hoping to conclude the season before the end of the year.
Earlier this year, District Sports Officer Janet Makawa also commended Ginnery Corner and Peter Kapolo for transforming women’s football in Dedza district.
Mangani Academy finished top of the standings with nine points, level with Bembeke Academy after five games, while Blue City and Chilamba Women finished third and fourth respectively.
Mkutu are in fifth position, with Young Stars bottom of the table on just a single point.
