Substitute Stain Davie and Chimwemwe Idana scored two unanswerable late goals to kill Karonga United resistance as the Bankers recorded their seventh win of the season with a 4-2 victory at the Silver Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors twice canceled out Silver Strikers’ goals as Uchizi Vunga and Mark Fodya fired them ahead in either half but Saulos Moyo and Nanson Mbewe eclipsed them respectively before the Bankers brilliantly scored two late goals to kill the notorious visitors.

Head coach for the Bankers, Peter Mponda, believes his side’s performance was very bad but said what is important is the win.
“I’m happy with the results but not happy with the performance, I think today we were very far from our best and I would say Karonga United played well in the match but football sometimes does not give what was supposed to be.” Said Mponda.
Meanwhile, Oscar Kaunda, coach for Karonga United, also blamed the referees for not protecting their players in the game but conceded the defeat.
“It was a good game and we played very well, unfortunately, our friends won, congratulations to them.” Said Kaunda.
The slow start of the match in the first minutes was lightened up by Uchizi Vunga’s thunderbolt goal that came outside the box in the fifth minute to put the Bankers ahead then Karonga United started to dominate in search of an equalizer. Charles Chipala headed wide after being set by Chimwemwe Idana in the 18th minute before Adiel Kaduya was rushed to hospital and was replaced by Mark Fodya then Nanson Mbewe assisted Saulos Moyo who leveled the score in the 23rd minute.
Chipala also headed wide from a corner kick after half half-hour mark and Zebron Kalima shot wide as the Bankers for a goal toward the end of the first half. Patrick Macheso replaced Chikondi Kamanga for the Bankers as the second half kicked off then Blessings Mwalilino replaced Kennedy Mwalababe for Karonga United before the substitute forced Chikooka with a save in the 63rd minute.

Mponda introduced Stain Davie for Chipala in the 67th minute while Moyo paved the way for Elias Mywanga before Fodya scored with a stunner outside the box to restore the Banker’s lead in the 70th minute. The lead was short-lived as Nanson Mbewe levelled four minutes later for the visitors then Elie Kayombo was substituted for Casto Kayuni on 75th minute.
Davie then fired the Bankers ahead once more with another goal from outside the box in the 80th minute then M’balaka and Kalima paved the way for Chisomo Mpachika and Emmanuel Kaunga five minutes later and Chimwemwe Idana was not yet done as he netted a beauty in the added time to increase the lead and the win.
The Bankers have now 22 points on the log table after recording 7 wins and a draw in their first games as they remain top of the standings while Karonga United are 10th on the table with 8 points from 8 games as well.
