Chitipa United say they are happy to finally take elite football to Chitipa and expect the performance of the team to go up after the Football Association of Malawi awarded Chitipa Stadium a license to host high-profile matches in the country.
The team has been using Karonga Stadium as their home ground for almost a decade now in high-profile matches but will, for the first time, play at their real home in the League.
The team’s General Secretary, Watson Kabaghe, said it is good news for the team and the people of Chitipa, as this will help the team do better and give a chance to the team’s supporters to watch their club playing.

“We are extremely happy because for the first time we will take elite football to Chitipa. Since 2016, when the team started, we used Karonga Stadium as our home, so this is great news to us,” said Kabaghe.
He also said the team will engage its supporters on how best they can use the facility for its longevity and also make it a violence-free place so that it can benefit people in the district.
“This will give us a chance for some revenue so that we run the team, and also people can run their businesses while the youths showcase their hidden talent. So, we will carefully use it so that we continue using it for many years,” he said.
With the team sitting 10th with 13 points from three wins, four draws, and four defeats, Kabaghe said they are on the right track considering how they struggled to remain in the League last season, and he strongly believes that once team building is done, they will do better than how they have started.
In contrast, Mzuzu Stadium has not yet been licensed and remains on standby as it awaits further inspections to ensure it meets the necessary standards.
This means that Chitipa United will have a chance to use Chitipa Stadium in the remaining league games, while Mzuzu City Hammers and Moyale Barracks will continue using Rumphi Stadium as their home.

Meanwhile, one of the soccer analysts in the country, Justin Mitambo, said councils should take these facilities as a blessing, as they can contribute greatly to development in the districts.
“Having a stadium is a business that can enable a council to earn K2 million or more in just 90 minutes. I don’t think they can do other businesses that can be as profitable as that in a few hours, so let them care for them so that they sustain more in them,” said Mitambo.
Chitipa Stadium was one of the facilities that were under construction as per the government’s wish to have each district council with its own stadium, and some facilities such as Ntcheu Stadium, Zomba Stadium, Mmbelwa Stadium, and Thyolo Stadium are yet to be finalised.
