Chimbiya Stars conceded their first goal of the season on Sunday in a 1-1 draw against Lobi Young Soccer. The TVM Division One league match was played at Dedza Stadium.
Innocent Biyeni scored a stunning volley for Chimbiya Stars at the end of the first half. The goal came after Victor Nyasha Biliat beat several defenders before setting up Biyeni. The goal, scored at the 45-minute mark, gave Paul Chikalema’s side the lead. Chimbiya Stars had dominated the first half but had missed several scoring opportunities.
In the second half, Lobi Young Soccer, coached by Alexander Kanthenga, came out with renewed energy. They had beaten Obings Pirates 1-0 on Wednesday and were looking to cement their position at the top of the league. Noah Peter scored the equalizer for Lobi.

A few minutes later, Lobi thought they had taken the lead on a controversial play, but after a consultation between the referee and his assistants, a corner kick was awarded instead. This moment changed the game’s atmosphere, leading to many fouls from both sides. The final ten minutes saw both teams pushing for a winning goal, but the match ended in a stalemate.
After the match, Chimbiya Stars head coach Paul Chikalema described the game as a tough derby. “Both teams wanted a win, and I believe this result is a fair one for both sides,” he said.

Lobi Young Soccer’s coach, Alexander Kanthenga, praised both teams for their performance, noting that it was a game of “equal halves.” However, he expressed frustration about what he felt was a goal “robbed” from his team.
The game grossed K1,376,400. Each team received a share of K288,450, as did the Central Region Football Association. The stadium owners received K344,100.
Christopher Zinyongo, the treasurer general for Dedza District Football Association, thanked the fans for their support. “These two teams are our representatives in the league, and we have a responsibility to support them,” Zinyongo said.
Lobi Young Soccer remains at the top of the league with 19 points from eight games, tied with Simbi FC. Chimbiya Stars dropped to third place with 17 points from seven games.
