Chester scores 9th goal, leads golden boot race in Mozambique

Yamikani Chester continues to shine in his debut season at UD Songo, scoring his ninth goal of the campaign as the league leaders beat Baia de Pemba 2-0 in the Mocambola League on Friday afternoon.

The former Mighty Wanderers and Mighty Tigers winger found the back of the net in the 34th minute to give Songo a half-time lead before Vitinho doubled the advantage midway through the second half to seal the victory.

The win extends Songo’s commanding lead at the top of the table to 17 points. They now have 44 points from 14 wins, two draws and one defeat, while defending champions Black Bulls sit second with 27 points from 14 matches.

Chester now leads the golden boot race with nine goals, one ahead of his teammate Luis Miquissone, who has eight goals in the league.

Meanwhile, his fellow Malawian Richard Mbulu missed his second consecutive match since returning from Flames duty due to injury.

Both Chester and Mbulu joined Songo at the start of the 2024-25 season after leaving Costa do Sol for the Mozambican giants.
