FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women secured a crucial point on Saturday afternoon, coming from behind to draw 1-1 with MDF Lioness in the National Bank of Malawi National Women’s Premiership. The match, held at Champions Stadium, saw the Lioness miss out on their first win of the season after a hard-fought battle.

MDF Lioness got off to a blistering start, with Laita Magombo scoring in the very first minute from a pass by Catherine Kachala. The soldiers successfully defended their lead throughout the first half, withstanding pressure from Bullets’ dominant possession.

However, the game shifted after halftime. Bullets’ coach, Maggie Chombo-Sadick, made a key tactical change by bringing on substitute Vanessa Issa. The change paid off just eight minutes into the second half when Issa assisted Pilirani Malolafor the equalizer.

Despite the setback, the Lioness had a chance to regain the lead when substitute Fazirah Chiyembekezo had an opportunity, but her shot was too weak to challenge goalkeeper Thokozani Mwase. Bullets continued to press for a winner, and Issa nearly sealed a victory in the final minutes, but her attempt was blocked. The match concluded with both teams sharing a point.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women’s head coach, Maggie Chombo-Sadick, admitted her team struggled initially. “Our friends came hard… we used long balls in the first half which we struggled with because our friends were too physical. In the second half, we opted for a passing and support approach, and we got that goal,” she explained.

MDF Lioness assistant coach, Yohane Fulaye, highlighted the team’s errors as the reason for the dropped points. “We played well in the first half, but in the second half, we made a lot of mistakes and our friends got their goal,” he said. He emphasized that the team would work to fix these issues before their next match.

Following the draw, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Women remain in fourth place with four points from one win, one draw, and one defeat. MDF Lioness, with two draws and one defeat so far this season, remain in seventh place with two points.
