FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are actively engaged in contract extension negotiations with their promising attacker, Chikumbutso Salima, as his current deal is set to expire in January next year.
The club is keen to secure the services of the player, who was promoted from their reserve team three years ago before a loan spell at Bangwe All Stars.
With Salima entering the final six months of his contract, he is free to negotiate with other clubs and sign a pre-contract. This situation has prompted Bullets to act swiftly, aiming to avoid a repeat of past instances where they lost several key players, including reserve graduates like Chimwemwe Idana, Nixon Nyasulu, and Alick Lungu, on free transfers due to delayed contract talks.

While Bullets remain optimistic about extending Salima’s stay, a significant salary gap currently exists between the two parties. Although the details of his current contract and Bullets’ new offer are undisclosed, Salima is reportedly seeking a substantial salary increment to commit to a new deal.
“We are in advanced stages of our discussions with Chikumbutso Salima. We are hoping that he will sign a new contract,” stated the Bullets Chief Executive Officer in an interview with Times Sports, emphasizing the club’s desire to retain the player.
Salima’s representative, Cephus Bennie Lengani, confirmed negotiations for improved terms. “We are negotiating for a better salary; we can’t rely on a signing-on fee because it comes periodically. We will see what will happen next,” Lengani said, adding that Bullets will always be treated as a priority.
In addition to Salima, Bullets have also initiated contract talks with Yamikani Mologeni, who is also seeking a salary increase. The future of Maxwell Gastin Phodo, whose contract expires in November, remains uncertain with a 50-50 chance of him staying at the club. Bullets are reportedly offering Phodo a two-year contract with a monthly salary of approximately MK360,000, but the former Silver Strikers forward has yet to respond to the offer.
