Bullets offer two-year deal to Silver’s defender Nixon Mwase

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have tabled a two-year contract offer to Silver Strikers’ experienced center-back Nixon Mwase, whose departure from the Bankers appears imminent when his current deal expires in April, Zodiak Radio has reported.

The ‘Ginimbi’ defender, as he is popularly known, has a contract with Silver Strikers running until April 10, 2026, but he has shown no inclination to extend his stay beyond that date. This has opened the door for Bullets to swoop in for a player who has been on their radar for some time.

Mwase joined Silver Strikers in November 2020 and quickly established himself as a cornerstone of the club’s defense. His performances earned him the Defender of the Season award in 2021, cementing his reputation as one of the TNM Super League’s most reliable defenders.

During his tenure with the Bankers, Mwase has been instrumental in the club’s success, helping them secure multiple trophies including two FDH Bank Cup titles, the Super League championship, and the NBS Bank Charity Shield Cup. His partnership with Maxwell Paipi at the heart of Silver’s defense has been particularly formidable over the years.

Rejected Contract Extension Sparks Transfer Speculation

Despite his success at the club, Mwase has turned down Silver Strikers’ attempts to negotiate a new contract, setting the stage for his departure. The former Civil Service United and Mighty Tigers defender’s next destination has become one of the most discussed topics in Malawian football circles.

“There were initial talks about Mwase also moving to Zimbabwe, but that doesn’t seem to be materializing. Bullets are very interested in bringing him in,” a source close to the situation revealed.

This is not the first time Bullets have shown interest in acquiring Mwase’s services. The People’s Team previously targeted the defender during Peter Mponda’s tenure as head coach, though a move failed to materialize at that time. Now, with Bullets actively seeking to reinforce their defensive line, the club has rekindled their pursuit of the experienced center-back.

The timing appears favorable for Bullets, as they look to address their defensive needs and mount a serious challenge to reclaim the TNM Super League title they last won in 2023.

While a potential move to Zimbabwe was initially on the cards for Mwase, the timing of his contract expiration makes such a transfer increasingly unlikely. With his deal running until April 10 and the Zimbabwean league set to commence just three days later on April 13, any Zimbabwean club would struggle to secure his services on a free transfer within such a narrow window.

This situation contrasts with that of his long-time defensive partner, Maxwell Paipi, who officially departed Silver Strikers on Friday and is expected to complete a move to FC Platinum in Zimbabwe. Both players had been linked with moves across the border, but Mwase’s contract complications have effectively ruled out that option for now.

With the Zimbabwe route appearing closed, all signs point to a return to Blantyre for Mwase, where he previously represented Mighty Tigers before his stint with Civil Service United. The prospect of joining Bullets would see him don the famous red jersey and compete for major honors with Malawi’s most successful club.
