FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are reportedly “seriously considering” lodging a formal complaint with the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) and the Referees Association following a contentious incident during their match against Ekhaya FC on Wednesday at Kamuzu Stadium. The club has voiced strong disapproval, claiming their players are not receiving adequate protection from match officials.

The incident in question occurred in the first half of a tightly contested match. As depicted in the accompanying photo and video clips circulating on social media, Ekhaya FC’s Elias Missi was seen grabbing Bullets’ forward Babatunde Adepoju by the neck after an aerial challenge. Further footage reportedly shows Missi kicking the Nigerian striker.

Bullets’ Chief Executive Officer, Albert Chigoga, expressed profound disappointment over the incident.

“As a club, we have watched the video clips on social media and from our media team. It’s so disappointing to see it,” Chigoga stated. He added that this is not an isolated incident, citing similar “inhumane” treatment of their players last season. “Our players are not being protected,” he emphasized.

Chigoga reiterated the club’s commitment to non-violence in football, noting that players are consistently coached not to retaliate and supporters are encouraged to control their anger. However, he warned that the continued lack of protection for their players is testing their patience.

“We believe that those who are running football in Malawi are watching this. One day, some people might be very angry, which we don’t want to happen, but it’s very disappointing to see it happening in front of Referees who don’t even take the right action and our players get injured,” Chigoga cautioned.

While refraining from disclosing the exact course of action, Chigoga confirmed that the club is deliberating its next steps. “We will make the right decision on how we can react to this incident, but we are considering it and I can’t say here, but we will see how best we can handle it,” he concluded.

Despite the controversial incident, Babatunde Adepoju went on to score the solitary goal of the match, securing a crucial win for Bullets that keeps them atop the league table.

Earlier this season, Creck Sporting Club players were also involved in such incidents against Bullets and three of their players were slapped with bans and the club was slapped with a MK1 Million fine.

Last season, Mafco FC also did the same to Bullets and their players and the club were punished.

Michael Mwambiyale was the referee who failed to send off Christopher Kumwembe against Mighty Tigers despite booking him twice and he also denied Tigers and goal against Mighty Wanderers. He was slapped with a six-month suspension.
