A Perfect Send-Off for Banega Lloyd’s career trajectory has been on a sharp upward curve since 2023.

Previously a less-utilized player at Civil Service United, his standout performances at the 2023 COSAFA Cup drew considerable attention, leading to his emergence as a regular starter.

Many clubs vied for his signature, but Bullets ultimately secured his services, reportedly investing MK10 million to bring him from his boyhood club.

His impactful displays at Bullets did not go unnoticed, attracting interest from various international clubs, including Congolese giants TP Mazembe, where former Bullets stars Patrick Mwaungulu and Lanjesi Nkhoma currently ply their trade.

After much anticipation, Banega is believed to have played his final game for Bullets, captaining the team to victory in the Airtel Top 8 Cup on Sunday at Bingu National Stadium, defeating rivals Silver Strikers. This trophy marks his first as a captain, providing a perfect farewell.

The Flames midfielder is expected to depart Malawi for Qatar later this week, pending the finalization of his travel documents.

Muaither SC: A Brief History

Muaither Sports Club, Banega’s prospective new home, is a Qatari professional sports club based in Muaither, a district in the municipality of Al Rayyan.

The club was founded in 1996 under the name Al-Nahda, before being renamed Muaither SC in 2004.

Historically, Muaither SC has largely competed in the lower divisions of Qatari football. Their journey has been characterized by periods of striving for promotion to the top-tier Qatar Stars League.

While they have not achieved sustained success in the very top flight, they are a consistent presence in the Second Division, often challenging for promotion spots.

The club’s focus has been on developing local talent and occasionally bringing in foreign players to bolster their squad, aiming for a return to the top flight and to compete with the more established Qatari clubs.

Banega’s signing signifies Muaither SC’s continued ambition to strengthen their team and push for promotion.
