Mighty Wanderers coach draws positives from 1-0 loss to Civil Service United as team prepares for CAF Confederation Cup
The Nomads head coach Bob Mpinganjira remained upbeat despite his side’s 1-0 friendly defeat to Civil Service United at Champion Stadium on Sunday, emphasizing that the result was secondary to his team’s preparation objectives.
Chikaiko Batison’s strike just before halftime proved decisive for Civil Service United in Dowa, but Mpinganjira was more concerned with using the match as a valuable training exercise ahead of crucial upcoming fixtures.

“It was a good game. Our fans should not be disappointed with the result,” Mpinganjira said during his post-match press conference. “Our interest was not necessarily in the result but to utilize the game and try different combinations, help players remain fit and give game time to those who don’t play regularly.”
The coach achieved his primary goals from the encounter, experimenting with various tactical setups while ensuring his squad maintained match sharpness during a critical preparation period.

“Our objectives have been met and we have drawn a number of positives from the match despite the loss,” Mpinganjira added.
The friendly’s timing proved particularly valuable as The Nomads face a demanding schedule ahead. They are set to take on Mzuzu City Hammers this week before turning their attention to their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round tie against Jwaneng Galaxy FC.
The continental assignment will see The Nomads host the first leg at Bingu National Stadium on September 21, before traveling to Francistown for the return fixture on September 26.
Mpinganjira views these preparatory matches as essential stepping stones toward what promises to be a challenging but exciting continental campaign for his side.
