Mighty Wanderers Head Coach, Bob Mpinganjira, says his team will need to improve their performance in the second half of the season if they are to win the TNM Super League and do well in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The tactician made the remarks on Sunday after the Nomads played to a barren stalemate against Civil Service United in the capital city at Civo Stadium.

The draw means that Wanderers have failed to win in each of their last three matches, as they also drew against Moyale Barracks and Chitipa United.

“The positive thing is that we haven’t conceded today against Civil,” said Mpinganjira during the post-match interview. “We have to commend the boys. We haven’t won a game in our last three matches, but playing a draw against Civil away from home isn’t bad.

“The competition is now intense; we have to sit down and plan well for the second round. We need to be collecting all points, but in the games we have drawn this season, it’s understandable. We will polish things up so that in the second round, we start collecting points.”

Mighty Wanderers will represent Malawi in the CAF Confederation Cup next month after being drawn against the Botswana side, Jwaneng Galaxy. The opponent has a good record in the Champions League, including two group-stage qualifications in their last three appearances.

When pressed on whether the team will need to boost the squad, Bob said, “If an opportunity to sign new players arises, I hope we will do so. But we have a squad that is good enough to play for the club in the competition; we just have to encourage them and work here and there so that we do well.”

Mighty Wanderers, who are chasing their first league championship since 2017, are currently leading the standings with 35 points from 15 games in the first round and remain unbeaten this season.
