Bangwe All Stars managed to leave Karonga district with maximum points after beating Baka City 0-1 in a match played at the Karonga Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Seleman Mussah netted the lone strike just before the hour-mark as the visitors put up a much spirited performance to hand Baka their second consecutive defeat in the NBS Bank National Division League.

Assistant coach for the visitors, Davie Matemba, said his team agreed to fight for a cleansheet and got a goal chance which they managed to hold it.
“We told the boys not to concede and luckily enough we managed to get a goal so I’m very happy that we have not conceded for the first time maybe in 8 games.” Said Matemba.
On his part, Victor Mwakhwawa of Baka City easily conceded the defeat saying his team had everything on set but it was not their day.
“It was a good game, we played very well and everything was well, possession and shooting on goal but our friends came and got the goal. It was just not our day but we will go back to analyse where we missed so that we do better in our next match.” Said Mwakhwawa.
The win took Bangwe up to fourth in the standings with 16 points from five wins, one draw and three defeats while Baka City are fifth with four wins, three draws and two defeats.
In another match, Namitete Zitha moved up to third in the standings and a point behind the leaders, Red Lions, after securing a hard fought 2-1 win over FOMO FC at the Mchinji Community Ground.
The hosts took a lead as early as 6 minutes when Maxwell Mangwere sent a powerful shot into the net but FOMO levelled four minutes before half time through Chitsanzo Saidi and Alexander Cosmas sealed the win 6 minutes into the second half.
Head coach for the hosts, Richard Fosiko, said the game was very tough but they tried to claim home points so that they move up further in the League.
“It was a tight game as our friends came with huge molare and also they looked much prepared but we worked hard and got an early goal which our friends cancelled towards the end of the first half but after further instructions, we came in and got the winner.” Said Fosiko.
On his part, Jimmy Zakazaka described the game as painful as their own mistakes led to the defeat in the game which they controlled it.
“It’s a painful defeat because today we did everything we controlled the game but our two mistakes helped our friends to get their two goals which is bad.” Said Zakazaka.
Zitha have now 18 points from five wins, three draws and one loss on position three in the standings while FOMO stay 7th with 12 points from four wins and five defeats in the League.
