Central region giants, Ascent Academy failed to close their gap on leaders, Silver Ladies, after being held to a goalless draw against MK Academy in a match played at the Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday morning in the National Bank of Malawi National Women’s Premiership.
Ascent put up a dominant performance in the entire match but still failed to unlock the hosts who managed to claim their second point in the League and stop the giants from walking away with a win.

Head coach for the team, Thom Nkolongo, said the team tried everything in order to win but his players underrated their opponents.
“We played very well today and created a lot of chances but I think it was not our day maybe the players underrated the team because they are bottom of the League so we need to work into this so that we should score goals in our coming games,” said Nkolongo.
On his part, MK Academy assistant coach Hastings Msowoya said they planned well for the game so that they get a win in the game.
“It was a tough game but we planned that we should win in this game and we worked hard so that if it fails we should at least get a point,” explained Msowoya.
The result means Ascent Academy remain second in the League with 13 points from four wins, one draw and one defeat while MK Academy are 9th on the table with two points from two games and four defeats.
Meanwhile, Sabina Thom scored a brace in her first NBM National Women’s Premiership match as MDF Lioness managed to beat Moyale Sisters 4-0 to rise up to third in the standings.
After a barren first half, Fazilah Chiyembekezo scored her second goal of the season in the 65 minutes before Catherine Kachala doubling it two minutes and Thom scored on 73 and 83 minutes to seal the victory.
Head coach for the team, John Kaputa, was happy with the win as it will push them further in the League.
“Let me celebrate this win because we have closer to the teams that are on top of the League. We tried everything to win but first half we struggled and second half we pressed more luckily enough we got the goals,” said Kaputa.
On his part, Moyale Sisters head coach John Chimwala said the break which the League had affected their fitness levels of the players.
“We came strong in the first where the game was balancing but in the second half, the fitness levels dropped and our opponents punished us,” explained Chimwala.
The win took the team up to third with 11 points from 6 games having won three games, drawn two and lost one while Moyale Sisters are 8th with four points from one win, one draw and four defeats in the League.
