AfriSports connect identifies over Ten players for European and American leagues

AfriSports Connect, an American-based company said that it has identified over ten players who will be sent to Europe and America for professional football opportunities.

This significant announcement was made by the company’s director, Humphrey Mahowa, at the conclusion of a two-day football tournament held at Chiwembe Football Ground in Blantyre.

“We are incredibly excited to announce that we have identified over ten talented Malawian players from this tournament who have the potential to play in Europe and America,” stated Humphrey Mahowa, Director of AfriSports Connect.

“This initiative is a testament to the raw talent present in Malawian football, and we are committed to providing these young athletes with pathways to international success.”

Malawi national women’s football team (Scorchers) player and Olympique Lyonnais (Lyon) star, Tabitha Chawinga, lauded the initiative, emphasizing its potential to elevate Malawian football.

“This program is a game-changer for Malawian football,” said Chawinga. “It will undoubtedly lead to our country sending more players abroad, which is crucial for the development of our national teams and the individual players themselves.”

The two-day tournament featured eight teams from the Blantyre District Youth Football Committee (BDYFC) and the First Capital Bank U-19 Katswiri League.

The primary objective of the competition was to scout promising players for opportunities to play outside the country.

The Chairman of BDYFC, Bitto Kayesera, expressed his satisfaction with the tournament’s outcomes.

“This tournament has been a tremendous success for the BDYFC,” remarked Kayesera. “The fact that some of our players now have the chance to play internationally is a huge step forward for youth football development in Blantyre.”

Nathan Nyirongo, the Malawi Country Director for AfriSports, also expressed his contentment with how the tournament unfolded. “We are very pleased with the organization and the level of talent displayed throughout this tournament,” Nyirongo commented. “It reinforces our belief in the potential of Malawian footballers, and we look forward to facilitating their journeys to higher levels of competition.”

In the final match of the tournament, Nyambadwe United emerged as champions after defeating Wanderers Reserve 10-9 in a thrilling penalty shootout, following a goalless draw in regulation time.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Youth secured third place by beating CC Stars 4-1 on penalties, after their match also ended in a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Rashid ‘Mendy’ Nicks, the exceptional goalkeeper for Nyambadwe United, was deservedly named the best player of the tournament for his outstanding performance.
