For Zebron Kalima, departing Silver Strikers has never been a serious consideration despite persistent speculation surrounding his future at the club—speculation that any player of his calibre naturally attracts.
Since his promotion from Silver Strikers Reserve to the senior squad, Kalima has established himself as one of the club’s most indispensable players. Before signing his previous contract, which expires in March this year, Zebron was linked with a move to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. He ultimately committed his future to the Bankers with a three-year deal.

As that contract approached its conclusion, the rumour mill churned once more. This time, speculation emerged linking him with a move to FC Platinum in Zimbabwe, potentially reuniting with his former vice-captain, Maxwell Paipi, who joined the Zimbabwean outfit earlier this month.
However, these reports proved to be nothing more than speculation. There were no substantial negotiations or concrete discussions between the Zimbabwean club and Kalima’s representatives.
A source with knowledge of the discussions, who requested anonymity as they were not authorized to speak publicly on behalf of the club, confirmed to Wa Mpira on Sunday evening that Kalima was in advanced talks with Silver regarding a contract extension.
Having already lost homegrown talent Paipi on a free transfer—a player they had hoped to profit from given his quality—Silver were determined not to repeat the mistake with another academy product.
The Bankers successfully persuaded Kalima to remain at the club, securing his signature on a contract extension that will keep him at the Area 30 Stadium until 2027. The club officially announced the development on Tuesday afternoon.
The news will undoubtedly delight Silver supporters. At just 23 years old, losing Kalima on a free transfer would have invited justified criticism of the club’s hierarchy.
Kalima earned his first cap for the Malawi National Team in 2021 during a friendly against Comoros. He was the only teenager selected for the squad that represented Malawi at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The scintillating versatile attacker has been a pivotal figure for the Bankers and would certainly attract interest from the biggest clubs in Malawi and beyond were he available. However, his commitment to his boyhood club has remained unwavering.
The new deal follows recent contract extensions agreed upon by Chinsisi Maonga, Innocent Shema, and Nixon Mwase.
Kalima has been instrumental in Silver’s recent success, helping the team secure the FDH Bank Cup twice in 2021 and 2025, as well as the TNM Super League title in 2024.
