Mighty Wanderers club President and Chairman of the team board, Dr Thomson Mpinganjira, has pledged increased support to the team as they compete in the CAF Confederations Cup, vowing to avoid the financial mistakes that left the club struggling with debt in 2017.
The commitment was announced by the team’s Chief Executive Officer, Panganeni Ndovi, during a Wednesday press briefing at the club house, where he provided updates on the team’s preparations for the continental competition.

Ndovi said the team is financially prepared and that Mpinganjira has promised to assist once they provide him with a detailed budget.
“He assured us that he will assist us if we provide him with our budget. We are now finalizing the cost of air tickets and other expenses, and we will present these to him for assistance,” Ndovi explained.
Meanwhile, Council Chancy Gondwe, secretary to the team’s board, thanked Mpinganjira for his continued support and expressed confidence that the team will perform well in the tournament.
“It would be remiss of me if I failed to place on record our gratitude as the board and the entire Wanderers club to our club President, Dr Thomson Frank Mpinganjira, for placing substantial resources at our disposal and enabling the club to return to elite African Cup competition. This has only been made possible through his personal intervention,” Gondwe said.

“We also have partners who have helped us, but most of the assistance has been contributed by him. So it will not end in tears—it will not end in debt as it did in 2017,” Gondwe emphasized.
The club has also called upon additional business partners to advertise their goods and services during match days, as the games will attract significant attention and provide a profitable platform for marketing.
The Nomads have declared themselves ready for the tournament both financially and technically, with efforts to finalize remaining preparations being intensified.
They return to the international stage for the first time since 2017, when they were knocked out by AS Vita of the Democratic Republic of Congo 6-1 on aggregate in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
In their previous continental campaign, the team fell into debt, creating problems that took years to resolve. They once approached the government for assistance but received no help. Eventually, Mpinganjira personally paid off all debts to restore the club’s financial freedom.
The Nomads will kick-start their campaign by facing Botswana Premier League champions Jwaneng Galaxy on September 21, 2025, at the Bingu National Stadium before traveling to Botswana for the return leg between September 25-26, 2025.
