Mighty Wanderers are reportedly planning to register striker Christopher Jacama Kumwembe for the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup, despite interest from several foreign clubs. Kumwembe recently returned to Malawi after his loan spell with Zambian side Green Buffaloes concluded earlier this month.
The Nomads are eager to retain the former Civil Service United forward’s services as they prepare for their continental campaign. Sources close to the club have indicated that Wanderers intend to feature Kumwembe in the second round of the TNM Super League, with a view to including him in their CAF squad.
Wanderers CEO Panganani Ndovi confirmed last week that Kumwembe was on a well-deserved holiday following a long season in Zambia and was expected to rejoin the team after his rest. “We expect to have him back after resting,” Ndovi stated. “He was in Zambia, and their season just ended, so we thought it wise to allow him to have a rest.”

Kumwembe, whose current contract with Wanderers expires on December 23, 2025, has already started training with the team. A source emphasized, “Kumwembe will play for Wanderers in the second round. The team wants to register him for the CAF tournament; once he is registered, he will start playing for the team.”
CAF Tournament Preparations Underway for Malawian Giants
Malawi’s football powerhouses, Mighty Wanderers FC and Silver Strikers, are now fully aware of the key dates for their respective CAF interclub competitions. CAF has released the official schedules and crucial deadlines for squad registration for both the Champions League and Confederation Cup.
Silver Strikers will represent Malawi in the CAF Champions League, having clinched the TNM Super League title in 2024. Mighty Wanderers earned their spot in the CAF Confederation Cup by virtue of their FAM Cup and Castel Cup triumphs.
Both clubs have approximately one month to finalize their initial squads. The primary registration window for the tournaments opens on August 1, 2025, and closes on August 31, 2025. A second registration period for teams advancing to the second preliminary round will run from September 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025.
Mighty Wanderers’ last appearance in a CAF tournament was in 2018, where they faced a tough 6-1 defeat to Congolese giants Vita Sporting Club. Silver Strikers last participated in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2019, exiting in the first preliminary round after a 4-3 penalty shootout loss to Ambere SC of Gabon.
