Democratic Republic of Congo football club TP Mazembe has appealed Linafoot’s decision to forfeit points from their matches against Aigles du Congo and Maniema Union. The forfeitures were imposed after the Ligue 1 governing body found Mazembe guilty of fielding Patrick Mwaungulu, who was also registered with Don Bosco.
The issue arose when Maniema Union questioned Mwaungulu’s eligibility. Linafoot subsequently ruled against Mazembe, awarding 3-0 victories to both Aigles du Congo and Maniema Union for the respective matches. This ruling is a significant setback for Mazembe as they vie for a spot in continental tournaments.

On Wednesday, TP Mazembe announced on their Facebook page that they have officially appealed the decision, asserting their belief that Mwaungulu was formally and correctly registered with their club.
Earlier this season, Mwaungulu, along with Lanjesi Nkhoma, was loaned to Don Bosco while TP Mazembe was serving a FIFA ban on registering new players. Upon the lifting of the ban, both players returned to Mazembe
Mwaungulu, a former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets attacker, had quickly settled into the team, scoring in his first two matches and becoming their primary set-piece taker. He was notably absent from Mazembe’s 2-0 victory over Motema Pembe in the Ligue 1 Playoffs on Wednesday, though Lanjesi Nkhoma started that match before being replaced at halftime by Oscar Kabwit.
