“Silver Strikers were off to a flying start in the TNM Super League after beating the 2023 surprise package, Chitipa United at Silver Stadium on Saturday.
Peter Mponda who replaced Pieter De Jongh guided the Bankers to a facile victory over the Inkhalamu Zga ku Chitipa in front of their supporters who turned out to cheer on the team.
Speaking after the game, the former Flames skipper said it’s too early to talk about Silver Strikers winning the league.

“Of course we are in the competition to win it [the league] but it’s too early to talk about it [now].
“This is the first game and we have 29 games to go but with this performance, I’m very happy with the way the guys responded to the pressure.
“It was difficult to play in the first 25 minutes, but the boys managed to handle the pressure, well done to them.

“[Chitipa] were marking us one on one without giving us the space to play but the boys but the boys kept on playing the way we wanted them to play,” he said.
Adiel Kaduya was a star of the game as he opened the scores before providing an assist to Binwell Katinji.
Silver Strikers are looking to bounce back from the disappointing seasons that they endured in 2022 and 2023 when they played without winning a trophy. The Bankers last won the league in 2013.
